Concerning the Holy Supper:  “But this spiritual eating is nothing else than faith, namely, to hear God’s Word (wherein Christ, true God and man, is presented to us, together with all benefits which He has purchased for us by His flesh given into death for us, and by His blood shed for us, namely, God’s grace, the forgiveness of sins, righteousness, and eternal life), to receive it with faith and appropriate it to ourselves, and in all troubles and temptations firmly to rely, with sure confidence and trust, and to abide in the consolation that we have a gracious God, and eternal salvation on account of the Lord Jesus Christ

What does this mean in a nutshell?  The promise of Jesus (“This is My Body…My Blood…For You…For the forgiveness of sins”) is to be received in faith!

Congregation Anniversary:  The family of believers at St. John’s Lutheran Church  in Palmer, NE will celebrate 125 years of Word and Sacrament ministry on September 20, 2026.  Mark your calendars now.   See the invitation card in the narthex for more information.

Hymn of the Month:  We will sing “O Day Full of Grace” (LSB 503) throughout the month of June in order to learn it well.  You can learn more about this Pentecost hymn by reading the following passages which are also listed at the bottom of the hymn page:  Act 2:1-4; 2 Cor. 1:21-22; 4:6; and Colossians 1:13-14.

Life With God:  Although our adult instruction class (“Life With God”) began last Wednesday, there is still plenty of room for anyone interested.  It’s not to late!  Feel free to invite them to our next Wednesday session, or have them contact Pastor with questions.   “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” (John 12:21)

Sanctity of Human Life:  Signatures are being sought for a measure that would change Nebraska’s Constitution.  If enough signatures are gathered by the end of June, the proposed amendment to be placed before voters in November reads as follows:  “A preborn child is a person at every stage of development, beginning at fertilization.  Wherever under Nebraska law the term ‘person’ is used or implied, it shall include such a child.”  You will have the opportunity to advocate for life and sign this petition on Sunday, June 14th following Divine Service in the church basement.  “Let your light shine…” (Matthew 5:16)

Life is Special:  “Remember that our Savior was born into a human household … He is our Friend, our Brother, He will help us in our time of need, especially when we seek Him out in God’s Word and fervently in prayer. As you relate to others in your home, ask God’s Holy Spirit to give you wisdom in difficult situations, mercy in abundance when forgiveness is needed, and love to cover all your family’s interactions.” Rev. Dr. Oswald Hoffmann, former speaker of “The Lutheran Hour” – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • lutheransforlife.org
