Advent 2025

“Repentant Hearts Ready”

Christmas is near!  Are you ready?  Thankfully, we are given time.  Just as we may prepare for the holidays by purchasing gifts, baking treats, decorating the house, and finalizing travel plans, so also the season of Advent is given to help us prepare spiritually:  Through repentance, in faith, we are well-prepared for the Savior who comes to save.

This Advent, we’ll again lean into John the Baptizer’s message as he calls sinners to repent while pointing to Jesus who comes to the Jordan.  (Luke 3:1-18)  In order to understand better the new life given in baptism, we’ll also seek to discover from the catechism the shape of repentance as one that involves daily contrition, faith, and new obedience.  (See also Q371 from Luther’s Small Catechism:  “How are we to examine ourselves before receiving the Sacrament?”)
